Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP)
Gentle Support for Your Nervous System
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is an evidence-based listening therapy designed to help regulate the nervous system, reduce stress, and support emotional resilience. Developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, founder of the Polyvagal Theory, SSP uses specifically filtered music to help the nervous system shift out of survival states and into a place of greater safety, connection, and calm.
How It Works
The protocol consists of specially filtered music delivered through headphones in a safe and supportive environment. The music gently stimulates the vagus nerve, which plays a key role in how we respond to stress, connect with others, and feel safe in our bodies.
SSP is not a quick fix—it’s a foundational intervention that helps your nervous system build more flexibility and resilience over time. Many people describe feeling more grounded, less reactive, and more able to engage in daily life and relationships.
Who Can Benefit?
The Safe and Sound Protocol can be supportive for children, teens, and adults who experience:
-
Anxiety, stress, or overwhelm
-
Trauma or PTSD symptoms
-
ADHD and difficulties with attention or focus
-
Emotional regulation challenges
-
Sensory sensitivities
-
Social engagement difficulties
What to Expect
I offer SSP as part of a trauma-informed counselling approach. Together, we will move at a pace that feels safe and manageable for your nervous system. SSP can be delivered in-session or remotely, depending on your needs.
Sessions are always supported and monitored, so that you have guidance and integration as you move through the program.
