I work from a collaborative, trauma-informed and client-centered place. Throughout our work together, you will be supported to develop a stronger sense of self-awareness and to make meaningful changes in your life. Counselling can be short-term and focused on a specific area, or more long-term and directed towards more broad life goals.
Some of the reasons that clients come to see me include:
We are hard-wired for connection. It is a basic human need and for the early years of our lives we need to depend on our caregivers to survive. When our caregivers are struggling, we e develop adaptive strategies to protect our relationships with our caregivers at all costs.
Change is constant, and unfortunately we don’t always have control over it. Whether it’s the loss of a relationship, starting university, a professional fork in the road, becoming a parent, or moving into a new phase of life, transitions come in all shapes and forms. One thing that they all have in common is that they often leave us re-evaluating our lives and trying to make sense of how we got to this place. While transitions can be very vulnerable times, they also offer great possibility. Changes present opportunities to realign with who you are, what you need, and where you want to go. They are also important times to take good care of ourselves, access support, and do some reflection.
Self Exploration and Growth
Do you feel disconnected from yourself like you are just going through the motions in your day? Does life seem to lack the sense of meaning and purpose that you crave? While connection to others is a vital part of human existence, I believe that we need to develop a strong sense of connection to ourselves to create the most meaningful and supportive relationships with others. Exploratory work can help you foster a deeper sense of self awareness, as well as skills to better communicate your authentic experience to others.
Depression & Anxiety
Maybe you feel sad and you're not sure why? Or perhaps it feels like the world is crashing down on you and you feel out of control? Emotion provides a window into ourselves and the journey that we are on. The range of emotion that flows through us is an important part of the human experience, but sometimes it can be really overwhelming and we can feel stuck. In treating depression and anxiety, I can support you to understand the connection between your thoughts, feelings and actions, and to take concrete steps to make positive shifts.
Self Criticism and Feelings of Unworthiness
For most of us, we are our own toughest critics. We often say things to ourselves that we wouldn’t dare say to our worst enemies!
“What’s wrong with you?”
“You could’ve done better!”
“You’re a failure.”
“If you don’t ______ then you will never _______.”
Sound familiar? This kind of thinking is not only destructive, but we often do it without even realizing that we are doing it. But... it doesn't have to be this way. By using Mindful Self-Compassion, I can support you to develop a more self-compassionate and loving approach towards yourself.
